Jailbreaking the iPod Touch...a bad idea or not?

Well...I have been waiting for the iPhone SDK to come out ever since I got my iPod Touch 2 months ago. And, finally, Steve Jobs revealed that it will come out, even for a nominal fee for the iPod, in late June...and, needless to say, I cannot wait that long.

For so long, the SDK was my light at the end of the tunnel, and helped me avoid Jailbreaking the iPhone, but when Steve Jobs said it would fully come out in June, I said to myself that I couldn't wait that long. So, I did the previously unthinkable. I jailbroke my iPod Touch.

Before getting into the actual software, I will get into how I actually jailbroke the iPod Touch. I Google'd "Jailbreaking iPhone 1.1.4" (because I have firmware update 1.1.4, and I don't want to change it back to 1.1.1), and I found Ziphone. I downladed it on my computer, for a hefty 500kb or so, and it was the easiest thing I have ever done.

I simply docked my iPod, and I said to just jailbreak the iPod (you could also unlock the iPhone, which I am considering buying an iPhone and doing that, and then re-selling it...because losers don't know how easy it is to unlock the iPhone and spend a couple hundred more dollars for the unlocked iPhone), and all it did was restarted my iPod, and I looked at my iPod, mystified, as a bunch of code was being written on the iPod. Then, after the coding was done, the iPod was restarted again. I undocked my iPod, and there was a fresh new app: Installer.

It was pretty self-explanatory, so I downloaded a draw app (I have been wanting one FOREVER), and a pool game, and then I downloaded a BSD Subsystem so I could actually use the apps...and then I had a major problem...

I tried to play a guitar app...but I had no sound. I then went to my music. No sound. Same with Youtube, Internet Quicktime, movies, TV Shows, everything. I was freaking out. I tried a hard reboot to no success. I then tried to do a restore, but an error message popped up. I was really freaking out. But then , after a few minutes, I found someone on a forum with the exact same situation, and it said to restore all of my settings and then do a hard reboot...and, thank The Lord, it worked.

My thoughts on jailbreaking the iPod Touch/iPhone:
1. It is not a good idea. This is supported by all of the mal-ware you could potentially download, which could be especially harmful if you have an iPhone.
2. It is fun...but don't let that blind you. The SDK is coming in two or three months. If you absolutely cannot wait, jailbreaking is a good idea...but, if I were to travel back in time, I would not have jailbroken my iPod, simply because of all of the risks involved.
3. This one is the biggie. IT VOIDS YOUR WARRANTY. If you ever do anything that destroys or breaks you iPod, and it would normally be in warranty...you have no luck. You would have to buy a new iPod.

So...its up to you. Is jailbreaking a good idea, or not?
